Take a Hike!

Seriously, go take a hike. Get outside for a little while. Bundle up if it is chilly, like it is today in the PNW! I make it a point to be outside, hopefully on a short hike at least, on my days off.

Being cooped up in a thrift shop, with dust and dirt flying around, moving boxes around, and all, it can be a bit hectic and claustrophobic at times. Not to mention the mental stress that comes with the territory. The best one can do to get away in a situation like that is to run out to the shed for a few minutes, but at this time of the year, pray you don't drown in the "lake"! Now, this is not to say I hate my job. I am actually quite fortunate to work with the people I do! The shenanigans are endless. And, the stuff that is donated can make one's day. (For better or for worse!) There just is not much time to take care of yourself, which is why I get away on my days off.

Being outside makes me calm down; it is very therapeutic and meditative. It helps me clear my head and dive into a good podcast that inspires and gives me little nudges and ideas on moving forward. (Currently, I am digging The Gary Vee Experience.) I will also listen to a good album and occasionally bring my camera along, like I did today.

I urge you to take some time for yourself! Maybe you cannot be alone for too long or you do not have a day off soon. Even if it is only for a few minutes, take advantage of it. Leave your department for lunch. Whatever you gotta do. If you can, play a podcast or music to mentally take you away. You do not necessarily need to take a hike, but please do something for yourself when you can.
