Another Beginning
I apologize for the severe lack of updates since school finished up for the summer! Usually, I write about my photo shoots or assignments, but those have slowed down for the time being. Although, I did have a beautiful senior portrait session and a slightly spontaneous portrait shoot with one of my best friends, neither of which I have not posted just yet! The latter is in the works, while the senior portrait session will have to wait until she is ready. =) Soon!
Back on the subject of school, my first quarter at Photo Center Northwest was incredible! I had needed that type of instruction and environment for years! I have grown so much as an artist. From learning the technical ins and outs of black and white film to creating a story in a series of photographs, this summer had it all. I learned plenty more real-world skills as well; dare I say more than I ever learned in over 15 years of prior schooling?
Commuting to Seattle two or three times a week, planning photo shoots anytime I got a chance, all while balancing a job on the Island really taught me a lot about time and project management, costs, communication, and collaboration. The people I have met along the way have been incredible, too. There are some very talented artists, both instructors and classmates, that have pushed me to keep up, and have been a blast to watch grow as well. Also, how lucky was I to work with a few amazing friends along the way?! It was awesome getting to know them more each time. There are few things better than photography with good people.
Now, as I prepare to begin fall quarter, I am in a position I did not think I would be in right now - Quitting my job! I will have to be even more careful with costs. Luckily, I have my savings, which is the only way I was able to afford to do this. It will be good to concentrate more on school. It was just time to close the chapter on this job, is all. Things happen in life and I feel I am in the best position I have ever been to ride this crazy adventure for all its got! I need to take advantage of it. In time, I will look for another job; I have to, especially in this profession! Photography is an expensive passion, but, like everything we love and everything that makes us who we are, it is worth the effort and sacrifices.
I leave my job on the 20th, with fall quarter beginning on the 24th. Please send some good vibes and prayers my way, y'all! =) I am excited for this next chapter of my journey!
